For whatever reason, these people put up with me.
23rd-Jul-2008 04:09 am - Cyd Charisse's Legs
One of my adolescent loves, Cyd Charisse, with Fred Astaire in a scene from The Band Wagon. Charisse (who passed away last month) had unbelievably long legs. Wish I could find a good hi-res portrait of her to put with the rest of my framed 30s - 60s movie starlet glamour pics.

And now watch Dawn French, of French and Saunders, reenact the scene, hilariously.

Quote of the Moment

Meg: Chris, quit it! Mom, Chris put his foot on my side again.
Chris: I can't help it, I have these long dancer's legs.

Quote of the Moment

Insurance Agent: Now this place you were at, Moe's, is this a business of some sort?
Homer's Brain: Don't tell him you were at a bar. But what else is open at night?
Homer: It's a pornography store. I was buying pornography.
Homer's Brain: Heh, heh, heh. I would never have thought of that.

20th-Jul-2008 03:28 am - Theatre Of Blood - Trailer
Theatre of Blood! One of my absolute favourite Vincent Price movies! Starring Price as a Shakespearean actor who, broken by 8 callous critics, commits suicide only to survive, his mind shattered and bent on revenge! Revenge using methods from the works of Shakespeare while he performs soliloquies from the scenes! If you ever wanted to watch a movie with Vincent Price disguised as a swishy hairdresser, a horde of killer bums, Diana Rigg as his devoted daughter (she supposedly considers the film her best work), and a man tricked into eating his prized poodles in a pie... this is the movie for you!

His range in this is just amazing as Price goes from his trademark camp to heartbreaking grief and pathos to flexing his classical Shakespearean best!

19th-Jul-2008 11:59 pm - Owie, My Back Hurts
Finished my Doctor Who Series 3 set yesterday. Started watching Supernatural Season 2 today and got 5 episodes in. Ahh, Sam and Dean, the hunky Winchester boys.

My back seems to be acting up today. Best guess is one of my compressed discs in my lower back must have shifted cause I have a shooting pain going down the lower left side, into my left buttock and down the back of my thigh. Actually, I probably shouldn't be online and should still be laying down with my knees elevated (eases tension on the tendons in the back). Silly me.

Today's family drama... )

Quote of the Moment

Dean Winchester: I hear you, okay? Yeah, I'm being an ass and I'm sorry. But right now we got a freaking zombie running around, we need to figure out how to kill it. Right?
Sam Winchester: Our lives are weird man.
Dean Winchester: Your telling me. Come on.

18th-Jul-2008 01:30 am - Wonderful...
I'm not in a terribly good mood at the moment. Darren came upstairs to use the computer around 8:00 this evening and was all nice and friendly. Couple hours later he came back up with the classified ads from the newspaper, open to the apartment rental page, and told me to show it to Dad tomorrow.

Nice. Been feeling sick with nerves and worry since. I just do not know what I should do.

The Watchmen movie trailer. Well... that looks roughly a thousand times better than I had expected. Seriously, my first impression was "wow".

Ж-Men...but not the ones you might expect!
This week LJ Russia launched Ж-Men, a new comedy series about superheroes, inspired by the LJ communities dedicated to superheros, comics and cartoons. The title's "Ж" comes from ЖЖ, the nickname for LiveJournal in Russia.

Ж-Men's script is written by a group of LJ enthusiasts who also happen to be television professionals. Who knew? Following the premiere, five more episodes will be broadcast over the next two weeks. We hope you find the series fresh and enjoyable.

This is, of course, an experiment for LiveJournal. As always, we'd love to hear what you think!

16th-Jul-2008 10:29 pm - Doctor Who Series 3 Started & I Already Love Donna Noble
God my head hurts. Bleah. My nerves aren't to great tonight either. Feel scared and full of dread, possibly the cause of said headache.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some surprising news tonight. I heard from 2 different people tonight (Darren in person and Gene online less than 5 minutes later) that my Labyrinth 2-pack figure set came in today (featuring Jareth and Hoggle from the movie). Only 6 months late (it was due in January or February; I ordered it some time last year). Honestly, I'm stunned as I figured it was canceled and that I'd never have to pay for it. I can afford it now, but I might just wait a couple of weeks before I go get it.

Quote of the Moment

The Doctor: Question is, what did camouflaged robot mercenaries want with you? And how did you get inside the TARDIS? I don't know... what's your job?
Donna: I'm a secretary.
The Doctor: **scanning Donna with his sonic screwdriver** Weird. I mean, you're not special. You're not powerful. You're not connected. You're not clever. You're not important.
Donna: This friend of yours, just before she left, did she punch you in the face?
**slapping the sonic screwdriver out of the way**
Donna: Stop bleeping me!

Marty McFly: Wait a minute, Doc. Ah... Are you telling me that you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean?
Dr. Emmett Brown: The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?

13th-Jul-2008 10:12 pm - A Cool Link & A Video
Wrong Side Of Art: Weird Posters: JR sent me this link last night. The site is a blog showcasing schlock and cult movie posters in high resolution scans. So up my alley.

Another friend linked me to this mock Justice League trailer someone made (using clips from Superman Returns, Batman Begins, and some random DC Comics shows, fan films and other movies for effect shots). I think the best part is actually the comment underneath where a guy complained that they left out Spider-Man in it.*

* He's from Marvel Comics. The Justice League, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman et al are from DC Comics.

Quote of the Moment

General Streck, German High Command: You leave me no alternative, but to introduce two of my associates. Bruno is almost blind. He has to operate wholly by touch. Klaus is a moron, who knows only what he reads in "The New York Post".
- Top Secret! (1984)
12th-Jul-2008 09:04 pm - Hate The Heat
Christ on a cracker it's hot today. The house, and in particular my second floor and my room, has been getting hotter and hotter all day long. Went outside a couple of hours ago and found that the tubing leading to the outside unit of our central air conditioner has iced up. So, I had to shut it down for awhile. Just went to re-look at it and the ice appears to have melted away, but I better leave it off for a few more hours just to be safe. Still friggin hot up here.

I hate summer.

Just some bitching you can ignore... )

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday Dad asked me to order a couple of books for him on Amazon. I did, and he let me add 2 cheap movies I wanted: Lifeboat and Real Genius. It'll be nice to finally get Lifeboat as it's one of my favourite Hitchcock films. Also, I haven't seen Real Genius in at least 12 years and it was a film I loved as a kid (Val Kilmer really should go back to doing more comedies).

I know, I shouldn't have order any, but in my defense, I haven't bought as many movies this month as usual (just 3 cheap ones a week and a half ago).

Quote of the Moment

Alex Fletcher: The best time I've had in the last fifteen years was sitting at that piano with you.
Sophie Fisher: That's wonderfully sensitive... especially from a man who wears such tight pants.
